I found another excellent location to source samples of the magnetic dust that seems to be found everywhere in my area. A parking garage emergency stairwell. This stairwell is underground and almost entirely un-trafficked by pedestrians. Its a bit like entering Shelobs lair with better lighting. The dust must slowly filter in over time through the cracks in the street-level door and other subterranean entrances.
Like before, the majority of what I collected seems to exhibit little to no magnetism. But also as before, a small portion reacts intensely to magnetic stimulation, standing up like the quills of a porcupine whenever the magnet passed underneath. I was able to isolate the most magnetic portion and here's the first view of that under magnification:
Fibers, and an impressively sized Red to boot.
note the way the granuals arrange themselves after a pass of the magnet. Compare to image above.
Trace amounts of this stuff appears anyplace I look where dust accumulates. Could it's presence be affecting the environment? Could it be manipulated in some way under specific environmental conditions? Questions to consider in light of all the other mysterious schemes that confront us. Maui, anyone?
Hi Will!
The first pict. of your last set makes me think of Bryce Canyon, Utah. I often related our natural world’s displays to the macro and microcosm.
In the last video, were you trying to isolate the magnetic fragments while transferring the material cluster on another slide? Very nice effect!
